‘New Mutants’ Second Draft Submitted To Fox By Josh Boone!
Fox seems all set to further expand its X-Men universe by introducing audiences to the New Mutants. A second draft of the script has been submitted and, by the looks of things, we might have an official release date soon enough.
Director and co-writer for the New Mutants project, Josh Boone, made the announcement on his official Instagram account. “Cover of a certain script @knatelee and I turned in last night to @simondavidkinberg #newmutants second draft,” he wrote along with the image he posted.
While Fox hasn’t revealed an official release date yet, Josh’s announcement has made it very clear that the project is moving along steadily with Knate Gwaltney co-writing the script.
New Mutants was first launched by Marvel back in 1982. It was created by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod. The series focused on the younger generation of students attending Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. The upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse will mark the debuts of the younger versions of Storm, Jean, Cyclops, Nightcrawler, and Angel. The trailer also showed Professor Xavier’s school having a lot of mutants attending. It is safe to assume that New Mutants might take place sometime after Apocalypse.
There were also recent rumors about Alexandra Shipp reprising her role as a young Storm in New Mutants. Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) and Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) were also rumored to be joining the project. With the second draft now submitted, look forward to official casting news being released by Fox soon enough.
It makes sense for Fox to focus on its other Marvel properties after Fant4astic Four underperformed at the box office. X-Men: Apocalypse will hit theaters on 27th May, 2016 in the US. It will be followed by Wolverine 3 on 3rd March, 2017. Deadpool already has a sequel confirmed, and Gambit seems to be in development as well.
