“We Bare Bears” Renewed for Season 3
“We Bare Bears” will be getting a third season in 2017, Cartoon Network has announced.
The first show on the cable channel to be based on a webcomic, “We Bare Bears” boasts the voice talent of Demetri Martin, Eric Edelstein, and Bobby Moynihan in its titular roles. The show takes a light-hearted look at modern living in San Francisco, with episodes themed around food trucks, internet dating, memes, and more. They recently released a DVD, “Viral Video,” with twelve of the best episodes from season one.
Season three is set to debut in 2017, just in time for hibernation season to run its course. Charlyne Yi, Patton Oswalt, Cameron Esposito and Ellie Kemper are all slated to reprise their voice acting roles, and Ron Funches and John DiMaggio are reported to have guest spots as well. There is no word on whether the opening, sung by Estelle, will get any kind of update.
“We Bare Bears” quickly rose to popularity with kids and adults alike, much like other “all ages” series Cartoon Network has to offer like “Adventure Time” and “Steven Universe.” Unlike these shows, “We Bare Bears” has kept more to light-hearted one-off concepts for episodes, rather than longer plots with complicated lore behind them and a lot of character development in between. That’s not to say the show doesn’t have its moments – the baby bear episodes seem to be especially good mixes of poignancy and cuteness. Much like the bear stack, balance is key.
Considering “Adventure Time” is coming to an end, it’s nice to know it will leave behind a legacy of creator-driven animated series that are still going strong with the support of Cartoon Network.
Season two of “We Bare Bears” is still currently airing new episodes on Thursday nights at 7 P.M. on Cartoon Network.
