29th GLAAD Media Awards Nominate Steven Universe, God’s Own Country, and More!
The nominations for the 29th GLAAD Media Awards are out and yes, they include a lot of awesome content that we love covering at The Geekiary. I guess we’re on the right track! This year’s nominations include Steven Universe, God’s Own Country, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and more!
You can go ahead and read the full list of the 29th GLAAD Media Awards nominees at the official website. Below, you’ll get to see a partial list with some of my opinions (similar to last year).
Outstanding Film – Wide Release
Call Me by Your Name (Sony Pictures Classics) – Opinion: It could’ve been so much better! The film drags itself down to follow the ‘summer-romance’ trope. Sigh!
The Shape of Water (Fox Searchlight) – Opinion: I was pleasantly surprised to see a likable queer supporting character.
Outstanding Film-Limited Release
BPM (The Orchard) – Opinion: As far as I know, it revolves around the AIDS crisis. I’m looking forward to watching it soon.
God’s Own Country (Samuel Goldwyn Films/Orion Pictures) – Opinion: All of you need to watch this BAFTA nominated queer film! It’s emotional, bleak, and so real! I love it!

Sense8 (Netflix) – Opinion: We love it!
Star Trek: Discovery (CBS All Access) – The Geekiary’s coverage.
Wynonna Earp (Syfy) – Opinion: We love it!
Outstanding TV Movie Or Limited Series
American Horror Story: Cult (FX) – The Geekiary’s coverage.
Feud: Bette and Joan (FX) – Opinion: A very enjoyable show!
Godless (Netflix) – Opinion: Could’ve been a lot better. But did well in the queer department.
When We Rise (ABC) – Opinion: I guess it was okay.
Outstanding Kids & Family Programming
Andi Mack (Disney Channel) – Opinion: I’ve heard good things.
Steven Universe (Cartoon Network) – Opinion: We love it! All the awards!
Outstanding Reality Program
Gaycation with Ellen Page (Viceland) – Opinion: Very fun and informative.
RuPaul’s Drag Race (VH1) – Opinion: YAS! Motha!
Outstanding Comic Book
America, written by Gabby Rivera (Marvel Comics) – Opinion: Where is Wiccan?
The Backstagers, written by James Tynion IV (BOOM! Studios) – Opinion: Highly enjoyable!
Iceman, written by Sina Grace (Marvel Comics) – Opinion: Meh!
Note: I can’t understand how Generation X (Marvel Comics), one of the best queer comics out there, wasn’t nominated. Also, check out Freelance (Chapterhouse Comics) if you’re looking for more queer storytelling.
