Behold the Final Trailer for Netflix’s Dark Crystal Prequel Series
Little more than two weeks remain until the premiere of Netflix’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, and the final Dark Crystal trailer has been released. Prepare yourself for an epic adventure and brace for the Darkening.
The final Dark Crystal trailer showcases the majesty of the series that manages to capture the charm and fantasy of the original 1982 film. We see our three intrepid Gelfling heroes – Rian (Taron Egerton), Brea (Anya Taylor-Joy), and Deet (Nathalie Emmanuel) – working together to unite the Gelfling clans against the Skeksis and something called “the Darkening”. Those of you who have seen the movie will know what this references, but I don’t want to spoil anyone unfamiliar with the story. In addition to the Skeksis (yep, still terrifying), we can also see some glimpses of Aughra (Donna Kimball) and some Mystics.
Aside from the stellar cast of characters, this trailer really emphasizes the beauty of the world of Thra and the skill that went into crafting it. Everything in this series is hand-crafted. Brian Froud, the designer on the film, returned for the series. Designers made use of the original movie’s puppets as well as concept designs from The World of the Dark Crystal to develop the puppets, sets, and costumes for this series.
I was extremely fortunate to be in the audience during the panel at San Diego Comic-Con, where they screened the first episode, and I can tell you right now that it is amazing. If that first episode is indicative of the rest of the series, you are in for a treat. Aside from being a gorgeous, cinematic experience, there is a nice introduction to the Gelfling clans and cultures. It sets up the story arc quite well, and leaves you with enough mystery and suspense to make you want to keep watching.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance premieres August 30 on Netflix.
