“The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl” coming to save the Marvel Universe next year!
Marvel is adding another female superhero solo-series in its arsenal. The fun and quirky Squirrel Girl is getting her solo-series come January next year!
I’m personally very excited about the news as reported by Entertainment Weekly. Yes, Marvel has given a lot of female superheroes their own solo-series but they were all A-list characters, at least in the Marvel Comic Universe. I’m greatly enjoying Storm and Thor has promise.
Compared to the A-list female characters, Squirrel Girl is someone who has always stayed in the background, which doesn’t make sense considering the foes she has defeated on her own. For those of you who might not know, since her debut in 1992, she has gone on to defeat villains that include the likes of Doctor Doom, MODOK, and Thanos. She even defeated Deadpool and Wolverine in battle. The new solo-comic book series is being titled “The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl” for a reason!
The series is going to be drawn by Erica Henderson and written by Ryan North. Currently, Squirrel Girl or Doreen Green is employed as a nanny by Luke Cage and Jessica Jones. However, the new series will follow her adventures as she heads to college and fights evil along the way.
I think Marvel will give this series a feel that’s similar to the current Ms. Marvel run. Kamala Khan has a quirkiness to her that makes her solo books very enjoyable to read. That’s why I think I will greatly enjoy Squirrel Girl’s adventures as well. And how awesome would it be if Doreen and Kamala Khan teamed up?
The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl will debut in January 2015. Will you grab a copy? Let us know!
