Visually Stunning Metroidvania “Nocturnal 2” Gets Demo This January

Fans looking forward to playing the action-heavy and visually stunning Metroidvania Nocuturnal 2 can get a taste of what the actual game has to offer when a demo hits Steam come January 27, 2026.
I don’t know if I will have time in my schedule to play Nocturnal 2 when it’s released sometime later this year, but I had to get the word out about the upcoming demo after watching the trailer. The way the Sunnyside Games indie dev team has programmed the fire effects is impressive. I mean, I have seen fire effects in video games before, but there’s just something different about how Nocturnal 2 has the lead character unleash flames and more.
Another thing that caught my attention is that the demo will be at least an hour long. The extended playtime is to help you explore an early section of the game’s narrative, as well as be able to play enough to unlock certain abilities, discover elements of the lore, and get a feel of the combat system. Of course, the demo has been structured in a manner that major points from the lore and accompanying spoilers will be avoided.
The story will put you in the shoes of a hero named Ardeshir. As the bearer of the Enduring Flame, you will be tasked with exploring “dark depths and towering heights” of Ytash, a forgotten city. The objective is to find a way to break the curse that has consumed Ardeshir’s homeland.
From what has been shown in the trailer, Ardeshir is more than capable of taking on dangerous enemies to accomplish his mission.
See for yourself!
Again, the visuals! From the way the flames move to the overall lighting, you can tell the dev team spent time to deliver something quite awesome. Take note that the game is hand-drawn and has been inspired by Persian architecture.
As for a little history session, the first Nocturnal game was released back in 2023, also by Sunnyside Games. It also featured Ardeshir as the lead. From what I could gather, the gameplay included a mysterious Mist that dynamically generated and reacted to the flames from Ardeshir’s sword.
Offering approximately 3 hours of gameplay, it left certain fans wanting more and it looks like Nocturnal 2 is ready to deliver.
Have you played the first Nocturnal video game? Are you looking forward to Nocturnal 2?
