The World Beneath — a “Psychopomp GOLD” Game Recommendation

It all feels a bit weird, don’t you think? Like, it’s not making complete sense, but you can almost see it. A dreamlike stupor born of helplessness and hopelessness. A sense of dread is marinating deep inside every single one of us.
Maybe you’ve had enough. Maybe you know there has to be more. In a burst of decision and drive, you create a brilliant technology: A helmet that lets you see the world for what it really is. Wonderful! Amazing… wow, this is so weird.
Weird might be the easiest way of describing Psychopomp GOLD. Weird world. Weird characters. Weird protagonist (whose style and smile have now been canonized as part of my transition goals). Weird music. Weird everything. And still, you never get the feeling that the game is a non-sequitur. There’s a constant sense of drive and discovery, a weird sense of innocence beneath a horrifying facade.
It’s in the details, really. The friendly NPCs you can kill with a hammer, the weirdly symmetric feel of the maps, and the slow pace and deliberate movement. You’re getting into a new world. You might be a part of it… You might be something more. Why has this truth been concealed from you?
The game’s an incredible mismatch of irreverent cartoons from the 2000s, web culture, and esoteric symbolisms. It manages to feel alien and distant while uncomfortably close to what would feel plausible for a conspiracy theorist to say.
It pulls a great deal from works like Petscop. It manages to recreate the morbid sense of humor and liminal haunted game feel with incredible precision. It feels deeply alive. Even the metal and concrete structures feel weirdly organic. There’s nothing quite like it.

So, as this newly awakened person, you get to explore the hidden passages and structures beneath government buildings. Pretty exciting if you ask me! Moving in a grid through geometrical and alien landscapes, you get to interact with people, kill monsters, and find the desired eggs of the earth.
Hope those aren’t important, because you’re not very careful while handling them.
It all amounts to a very unique experience, certainly one of the most memorable I’ve had during 2025. We all need more weirdness in our lives. It keeps us sane. If you don’t have enough, Psychopomp GOLD will certainly give you a much-needed fix.
With a sequel in the works, I’m sure we’ll have much more weirdness ready to be dropped on us in due time.
Here’s to another journey of abstract estrangement!
