Talk Amongst Yourselves. I’ll Give You a Topic: “The 100” Season 3 Promo!

the 100 s3

But seriously, can we talk about this? Because after months of waiting, we finally have a teaser trailer for the new season of The 100, and I have been so hard-up for information that I am salivating at the little morsels we’ve just been given.

I think one of the most important things this teaser shows is Indra. The 100 does a lot of things right in terms of badass ladies and women holding positions of power, but it could use a few more women of color. Indra is, so far, the only black female character on the show, so I’m very happy to see that she’s sticking around. Her presence in the trailer also implies that we haven’t seen the last of the Trikru, which means that Lexa will undoubtedly return – which means a return to the Clarke/Lexa dynamic that so captivated fans last season. Hopefully this means we’ll get some closure about Lexa’s apparent betrayal of Clarke and the others when she made a deal with the Mountain Men and basically left them for dead. After all, actress Eliza Taylor did say that there was still resentment there, and that won’t go away very easily.

A shot of a massive group of grounders indicates that we will probably meet some more of the clans this year, which is exciting, mostly because I want to see if the different clans have any kind of different cultures or behaviors. The Trikru seems very primitive, considering it’s only supposed to have been about 100 years since the bombs went off, especially when compared to the Mountain Men.

It seems that Clarke is still on her walkabout, having left the others in order to deal with the guilt of the genocide she (and Bellamy) committed. (It also looks like her hair is kind of red, but that just could be the lighting in the promo.) The knowledge that she is being hunted – “by everyone”, according to Indra – hints that the tale of her epic takedown of the Mountain Men has spread, and rather than people being pleased that she has gotten rid of what was apparently a very feared and powerful enemy, they have reacted with suspicion. A teaser image of Clarke in Grounder makeup was released earlier, and I speculated as to the many reasons she could be dressed in such a manner.

Judging from the scene between Kane and Bellamy, dare I hope that Bellamy has taken on a leadership position at Camp Jaha? Bellamy kind of took a supporting role last season; he was still important and very much involved, but he was more there to support and follow Clarke’s plans than make any of his own. I’d love to see a return of the Bellamy/Clarke dynamic from late season 1, where they both took charge of the camp in preparation for the battle with the Grounders. I think Bellamy and Clarke work best as a team because they balance each other out. However, I’m also intrigued to see how Bellamy has been dealing with Abby and Kane, considering his distaste for the Council.

Brief shots show that Jasper is still devastated over Maya’s death (bonus Octavia!), and both Raven’s and Monty’s lives are in danger from completely separate events, yet a few people were missing from this promo. Luckily, this is just a teaser, and a longer promo should be released sometime in the coming weeks (according to Jason Rothenberg, that “sometime” is Monday!) that will hopefully give us glimpses of Abby, Jaha, and Murphy (and maybe Miller, Monroe, and Harper? A girl can dream!). Jaha’s storyline will no doubt be important, judging by his discovery at the end of season 2 – and we know that it is connected to the bunker that Murphy found. I also hope to see more of Octavia, Lincoln, and Raven (and Jasper and Monty and…)

Oh, so much to think about! It is just a few short weeks until The 100 returns to us, and until then we will have to analyze and dissect every bit of this trailer while we pray for more information. January 21st cannot come soon enough!
